A selection of Archived Work

This portfolio contains work completed prior to 2013. I received my MFA in 1980, there are many paintings over those years. I have selected some here to demonstrate how my artistic practice has reflected my spiritual journey. In this work, as in my current work I am searching for a way to create a place of internal stillness. 

Over the years, I have developed a process of layering semitransparent glazes, giving the surface a greater importance, while the definition of shapes and forms has become less important. These early pieces clearly show how I was trying to continue to embrace abstraction while leaving behind the flatness of formalism which bears no trace or reference to anything from the real world. The result of this effort often resulted in the emergence of imaginary places.
