What art offers is space — a certain breathing room for the spirit. ~John Updike
In this blog I'd like to highlight three paintings from my current exhibit that illustrate my intentions to use synthesized memories as inspiration to create paintings which offer an opportunity for personal reflection.
Many people I have discussed this painting with have commented on how the warmth emanates not from the red which is usually associated with heat but from the yellows and even the blues and whites which sit behind the red border.
The red layer indicates a perception of location, on the way to what lies behind/within. Elements of that deeper layer are contained within the red layer. your first perception of the painting changes as you continue to observe...
This painting is dense with color and incident but calm altogether.
A quiet painting despite the robust, saturated reds.
The show runs from October 2, 2015 – January 7, 2016 and the Opening Reception is on October 2, 2015, from 6:30-8:30pm
